IMPLEMENTING AND ENACTING FOR YOUNG CHILDREN'S LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Case Scenario:

You are the teachers of the preschool room in an early childhood setting. Over the past few weeks, the children have shown interest in world maps and Globes and inquired about the cultures of different countries. In follow-up to the continued interest, your team made the pedagogical decision to commence a project investigation on Countries from Across the Globe.

To start the project investigation, the team needs to do some further research to develop their own content and conceptual knowledge on Countries from Across the Globe. You discuss this with the service's educational leader, who recommends you watch the following Play Schooh episodes and use these as provocations for the project investigation:

For this assessment task, you will need to work in small groups of four (4) to design, implement and enact an interest-focused curriculum plan to promote young children's (aged 3 to 6 years) holistic development and learning. The project investigation must include learning opportunities across all curriculum learning areas and demonstrate the teaching pedagogies and strategies required to implement and enact the interest-focused curriculum plan in an early childhood setting.

Phase 1:
• Watch the above episodes and, as a team, use a form of j and mapping to document:
o how the episodes facilitate children's holistic development, learning and wellbeing.
o links to all curriculum learning areas, developmental domains and Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes.
o The concepts presented about the cultures of the different countries.

Phase 2:

• As a team, nominate another country you would like to introduce the children to.
• Using the P/aySchoo/episodes as provocations, develop an interest-focused curriculum plan on your selected Country. Ensure the curriculum plan documentation includes:
o A mind map and learning outcomes for the project
o A teaching resource list, including children's books, told stories, apps, videos, shows, songs, performances, props, and cultural materials.
o Links to all curriculum learning areas, developmental domains and Early Years Learning Framework Learning Outcomes.
o Small group learning opportunities using the identified teaching resource list
o A minimum of five (5) songs that teachers can use with the children. Ensure to include the words and actions to each of the songs.
o An indoor and an outdoor project/investigation learning area for the children to freely explore materials, instruments, props, images, videos, etc. on the picture books. Set up this learning area and take photos or a video for submission.

Phase 3:
• Using the teaching resource list above, video record the following for submission:
o One (1) team member reading one (1) of the children's picture books in an engaging way.
o Another team member is singing one (1) of the songs with the actions.
o A third team member discusses the culture using a video, an app or a story.
o The fourth team member uses the cultural materials or performing a dance.
o All group members collaborate to enact a small group learning opportunity.
