Mocha is a gravida 3, para 2, at 41 weeks of gestation. She is scheduled for oxytocin induction of labor. Her first two pregnancies ended at 39-40 weeks, and the babies weighed 3996 g (8 lb., 13 oz) and 4394 g (9 lb., 11 oz) gestational diabetes has occurred during this and her second pregnancy.

1. What is the probable reason for Mocha's induction?

2. What tests might be performed before her induction and why?

Mocha's initial assessment are normal, and FHR is reassuring. She is having an occasional light contraction but no regular contractions.

4. How should the nurse set up the oxytocin infusion? What is the rationale for setting up the infusion in this manner?

Despite adequate contractions, Mocha's cervical dilatation does not progress beyond 7 cm, and she will have a cesarean birth.
