Assignment Problem: explosion of huge volumes of unstructured data, a new breed of database technologies has emerged and have become popular. Clearly, these new database technologies like Dynamo, Bigtable, and Cassandra are critical technology to the companies that created them. Why did they allow their employees to publish academic papers about them? Why did they not keep them as proprietary secrets?

Amazon created Dynamo, Google created Bigtable, Facebook created Cassandra, and these companies created these new databases to solve real business problems rather than the strategic development of the company. These new databases were created for this company's business problems, so it was difficult for other companies to apply them to their own business. If it is related to commercial secrets or strategic development, I believe they will take confidential actions and will not let employees publish. And these companies also know that other companies are doing the same thing, so publishing the corresponding academic documents will reassure investors that they are not losing their competitive advantage.
