You can also view the article at https://www.ibtimes.com/aging-us-power-grid-blacks-out-more-any-other-developed-nation-1631086. Next, assess the efficiency of the current state of the national electric grid in the United States. Then, describe the key challenges in updating this grid to a so-called "smart grid".

• Read the article titled "Earth's Inconstant Magnetic Field" under the Earth's Magnetic Field terms section of the Science Corner. You can also view the article athttps://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lookingatearth/29dec_magneticfield.html. Next, summarize the main reasons why the researchers stated that "our planet's magnetic field is in a constant state of change". Then, discuss the overall manner in which a magnetic reversal might impact human activities on Earth. Include one example of such impact to support your response.

• Demonstrate an instance of static charge such as seen with examples #32 and 33 shown on page 209 of your textbook. Next, post a picture of your example then explain the method of charging you used as well as the charges displayed in each object.

1. Briskly rub a comb against your hair or a woolen garment and then bring it near a small but smooth stream of running water. Is the stream of water charged? (Before you say yes, note the behavior of the stream when an opposite charge is brought nearby.)

2. Demonstrate charging by friction and discharging from pointed objects with a friend who stands at the far end of a carpeted room. Wearing your leather shoes, scuff your way across the rug until your noses are close together. This can be a delightfully tingling experience, depending on the dryness of the air and how pointed your noses are.

• A RESPONSE.... MINE NEEDS TO BE BETTER LMAO......

After reading the article "Aging US Power Grid Blacks Out More Than Any Other Developed Nation" the electric grid in the United States can be considered the largest machine on earth. According to industry group Edison Electric Institute the power grid is serving 150 million customers and is estimated at the value at 876 million dollars. However, even though the United States has such a powerful power grid it still experiences more blackouts than most countries. To identify the problem is to look at the infrastructure of the country, most of the buildings are aging and causing the blackouts to happen. The problem solver to this situation would be to upgrade the grid into a "smart grid." The key challenge to make this improvement into reality is it would cost between $338 to $476 billion, when the most invested is $8 billion.

The main reason researchers stated that that "our planet's magnetic field is in a constant state of change" is over the years they have studied the north magnetic poles which can be noted that they have been moving and have moved at least 10 km per year. Recently that number has increased to 40 km per year. An overall manner of a magnetic reversal is the magnetic lines of force near earth's surface become twisted and tangled. Also, magnetic poles pop up in random places which protects humans from space radiation and solar storms. This makes it harder for researchers to study the magnetic poles, then researchers have to travel more to catch up to the magnetic poles. Static charge happen often.

One instance is when a slight electrical shock can happen when a doorknob is touched during dry weather. Another example, which is very common is when shuffling feet across carpet in low humidity.

Choice 2: Women have had the right to vote in the United States for not quite 100 years - since 1920. It took suffragists many years to finally achieve a constitutional amendment giving women this right. Why did men resist the idea of women voting for so long? What issues finally helped the movement gain momentum and succeed?

Looking at the issue of Women's suffrage through the prism of today's society, it is difficult to imagine a time when woman were invisible with respect to American Politics. Slavery had been resolved (in Law) before the issue of voting rights for Women became a forefront issue.

When asking how this could have been permitted it must be considered the belief system which America was founded. If you explore accepted gender roles within the Christian/Judeo principles women are considered to be subordinate to men. According to the prevailing religious belief of the time women are a "help-mate" to men. Their role is in the home, decisions outside the home were to be handled by men. It was believed women were not experienced enough worldly affairs to make decisions required to voice a vote.

Even today many main-stream religions have codified the role of women by reserving leadership positions to male exclusive ordinations. Things are changing within in many religious groups after hundreds of years or women being defined as non-clergy.

It may be over simplistic to consider, "can women be trusted with equal rights and voting privileges when even GOD sees women as subordinate?"

Regardless of such beliefs the role of women in society could not be denied and the constitution was amended to reflect women's right to vote.

Part B: How did giving women the right to vote influence civil rights and politics in the United States? How might politics today be different if women were not involved?

The role of women in American politics is huge. Women traditionally are interested in what is referred to as "bread basket" or "bread and butter" issues. Women look at the economy and security as major considerations with whom they support politically. There was even a term created, several years ago, referring to "Soccer Moms" as being a major political block.
