Select one of the following three topics related to employee performance management:

. Managing for results; defining results, measuring results and setting goals. Discuss why setting goals is important and how results arc integrated into employee performance management.
2. Reviewing and developing employee performance - Analyse and discuss how organisations manage performance and underperformance.
3. Performance appraisal and Management - Analyse and discuss how organisations assess behaviours and competencies and the key issues in performance appraisal.
2. Do a literature search and review on your selected employee performance management topic. Use about 12.15 academic references altogether. Ideally, 'oumal articles used as references should be published in A• or A rated oumals. Journal ratings will be discussed in the Week I tutorial class. Then xplain the practical implications of the research to managers and employees.
3. This assignment requires students to investigate additional sources beyond hose referred to in the textbook and readings list. Assignments that simply summarise comparatively basic information will not receive a high mark. The idea is for students to go to academic sources, and find out about the most recent research and debates about the selected issue/s. In the essay, students need to use the information they found to explain to a line manager (i.c. a non-specialist) what is important for them about the research findings.
