Problem: You have a population of French Toulouse Geese with a heritability for the liver weight of 0.3. You want to estimate the breeding value of a particular goose G1. He has 50 progeny, and the mean progeny phenotype is 40 grams. For individuals in this population, you can estimate their BV by using either their own phenotype or the mean phenotype of their progeny. For liver weight, how many progenies would be needed for the BV estimate from progeny mean to be more accurate than the BV estimate from their own phenotype?
