In a common lecture demonstration of wave pulses, a piece of rubber tubing is tied at one end to a fixed post and is passed over a pulley to a mass hanging at the other end. Suppose that the distance from the fixed support to the pulley is 5.6 m, the mass of this length of tubing is 0.65 kg, and the suspended mass is 9.99 kg.

If the tubing is given a transverse blow at one end, how long will it take the resulting pulse to reach the other end?
