First, let's start with questions based on your opinion:

1. Philosopher Soren Kierkegaard once said that "subjectivity is truth." Explain what you believe that quote to mean and how it relates to the nervous system and senses.

Complete the following based on the scenario:

Mateo has noticed that his vision hasn't been quite the same lately. He's leading a busy life with his career, family obligations, and school work so he hasn't made it to the eye doctor for his yearly checkup yet. He had an accident at work, tripping over some wires that were recently moved to a desk after a new computer was installed and blocked the path. Though he feels fine, his supervisor has sent him to be evaluated because an accident report needs to be completed.

Once with the doctor, he begins a thorough physical exam and notes that during intake, he had difficulty with the eye chart and begins to ask more about Mateo's vision. He tells the doctor that his vision has been declining, chocking it up to getting older and lack of sleep. The doctor begins tests on Mateo's balance, sensation of pin pricks, and the pressure felt from a tongue depressor at various locations on his body. Then the doctor starts to ask him questions about headaches, which he have been experiencing more frequently but has easily explained away as being from lack of sleep and caffeine intake.

The doctor ends the exam but refers Mateo to getting a CT scan of the brain. Mateo is sure that the doctor overreacting but just being thorough because of the work-related injury that sent him to see the doctor in the first place. Mateo complies with the doctor's wishes and goes right away while he still has the time off from work to get the scans done.
About a week later, he gets a call from the doctor's office with some shocking news: a tumor was detected in his scans. He is now being referred to a neurologist for follow up.

Naturally, his curiosity gets the best of him and he start searching the internet for information. He has so many questions. Important note: You are not expected to be a doctor. This discussion is not testing your ability to diagnose or pinpoint a tumor's exact location and you aren't graded on that aspect. What will be focused on is your ability to, using your educated guess of the tumor's location, properly explain and answer the other questions.

Draft your initial discussion post by responding to the following items:

- Where is the tumor likely located so that vision is affected? Why do you think that?

o List specifically the areas of the brain that you think could be involved, giving as much detail as possible.

- What other normal functions does this area control, aside from vision?

- Mateo assumes the worst and researches surgery- What are the risks associated with brain surgery? Describe the pros and cons and how they compare to those of your peers.

- Why do you think Mateo experiencing headaches? Was lifestyle a factor? What could have contributed to or been done to prevent this tumor, if anything?

- Locate at least two reputable and scholarly sources from the internet to inform your answers and then, finally,

- Come up with at least two (2) of your own questions that you would want answers to and end your post with them for your classmates to respond to.
