How is aerobic exercise different from anaerobic exercise? Aerobic exercise results in the production of pyruvic acid; anaerobic exercise requires oxygen. Unselected Anaerobic exercise occurs when your muscles have enough oxygen for metabolism; aerobic exercise occurs when there is not enough oxygen available for the breakdown of glucose.
