Homework: Reading & Writing Strategies

To be successful in reading and writing, students need to be immersed in literacy. Effective teachers utilize research-based strategies that provide students with many opportunities to apply and practice their literacy skills.

Create a 10 to 15 slides digital presentation for your colleagues to provide them with examples of research-based instructional strategies that promote literacy development within elementary education classrooms.

Select a grade level preschool-Grade 3 and provide one research-based strategy to promote development in each of the following areas. Include an example of how each strategy could be utilized within the classroom of your chosen grade level:

1) Phonics
2) Phonemic Awareness
3) Vocabulary
4) Comprehension
5) Fluency
6) Writing
7) Listening
8) Speaking

In addition, in 200 to 250 words, reflect on how integrating oral communication, reading, and writing during instruction can increase learning in all content areas.

Presenter's notes are required for each content slide. Presentation must include a title slide at the beginning, and a reference slide with documentation of resources at the end. The title slide and reference slide do not count in the total number of slides.
