Assignment - Analytical Argument
Essay asks you to begin by reading the following articles from your textbook:
"It Turns Out Our Tech Gadgets Aren't as Isolating as Experts Say"
"How Smartphones Hijack Our Minds"
"Social Media: The Screen, the Brain, and Human Nature"
"Google, Democracy, and the Truth about Internet Search"
"Are we Really as Awful as We Act Online?"
After reading these articles, chose a topic that they address, either individually or collectively, and take a position that allows you to analyze the major points that the author(s) make in their essays. Consider what their main point is - does it correspond with one of the other articles you read? What is that point? Does it seem credible (note: not do you agree with it, but does it make sense?).
Then, write an essay of at least 3 completely full pages in which you address the following questions:
How does our use of technology impact the way we interact with others?
How has technology improved our culture, in terms of things and belief systems?
How has technology damaged our culture, in the same terms?
Given that technology is not going away, how would you argue we could improve our social behavior, interpersonal relationships, and online comportment?
What conclusions have you drawn about the ways that technology impacts personal relationships and behaviors, based on your reading and thinking throughout the time you've developed this essay?
