Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel Olympic episode
1. Is the IOC political? Is it a "closed-loop" system?
2. How has "Olympism" changed over time? What values have remained constant?
3. How does the film Chariots of Fire reflect the ideals of the Olympic Movement? How is religion presented? Who were the Olympics for in their first years?
4. The Olympics episode of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel demonstrates the serious problems of a self-declared apolitical organization partnering with authoritarian governments. Provide and analyze an example.
5. Reflecting on the Real Sports episode, is the IOC living up to the principles of human rights laid out in the Olympic Charter? Should the international community hold the IOC accountable? Why or why not?
