Response

Respond at least 150 words

While IEPs are planning documents, they are also documents that inform teaching and contribute to monitoring, recording and reporting a student's progress and attainment. In general, I am familiar with all of the steps involved in the IEP process, such as pre-referral, referral, identification, eligibility, development of IEP and so on. Regarding the factors which influence individual students' ability to learn, I may not have sufficient understanding of some of these factors to take account of and respond to individual student needs, to plan lessons sensitively, and to teach in an inclusive way. I may need to learn the strategies for differentiation, the approaches I should take to organizing groups, selection of resources and setting of student learning targets. When it comes to the implementation of the IEP, I will need to learn more about how every team member contributes to the overall success of the plan and their specific roles. The new teacher is likely to come into contact with many professionals when attending an annual review of a child's statement as the class teacher in primary school or sometimes as a subject teacher in secondary school. It would be helpful to familiarize onseself with the roles of other colleagues and of what they can and cannot do so that one develops realistic expectations of others. Finally, I would need more knowledge in terms of specific aletrantive assesment procecures and accommodations that the student may require (e.g., technological devices, etc.).
