Assignment:
Part I
Summarize what Lonergan says about the following types of conversion: moral, intellectual, and religious. Choose an example from our course to illustrate each of the three aspects of conversion. Do not use the same text for all three.
1. Moral conversion. How does Lonergan understand it? Which text provides a good example of moral conversion? Summarize how this text illustrates a moral conversion.
2. Intellectual conversion. How does Lonergan understand it? Which text provides a good example of intellectual conversion? Summarize how this text illustrates an intellectual conversion.
3. Religious conversion. How does Lonergan understand it? Which text provides a good example of religious conversion? Summarize how this text illustrates religious conversion.
Part II
How does community, including family, friends, and even literature of others influence a conversion? Name three different examples from our course where the person was influenced by community in their conversion. (Do not use the examples you used in Part I; you can use the Journey Home episode if you'd like.)
Part III
Using Lonerganian terminology and categories, compare and contrast two sources from the course. Where did these conversions have overlap? Where were they different? How does Lonergan assist in the comparison of the sources?
Part IV
How did all the various voices in this course work together to provide an idea of the complexity of conversion? What themes stood out as particularly common in the texts (name a few that fit the themes)? Were there any texts that seemed to be outliers, not fitting the Lonerganian categories as neatly as others? What texts provided the greatest insight for you and which seemed not as relevant?
