Freud's theory began the journey through psychology and took us to where we are today. Freud was a biologist and his theory is biologically based and explains one aspect of development of an individual even though it has far reaching effects on the personality that is developed.
Think about the following questions:
Question A. How does Freud's theory help us to understand the development of an individual?
Question B. What is the conflict that takes place within the infant in Freud's theory of development?
Structure of Personality:
Question A. What is the role of the Id, Ego and Superego in the development?
Question B. What factors play a part in the infant's transition from Id to Ego and to Superego?
Question C. What is the role of fantasy in the transition between Id and Ego?
Question D. Which task does an infant have to learn to transition form Id to Ego?
Question E. Which role does the Ego play in this structure of personality?
Question F. If there is to much/to little Id within the structure what type of personality would we have?
Question G. If there is to much/to little Superego what type of personality would we have?
Question H. What would be the healthy balance in this structure?
Developmental Stages:
Question A. If the Oral stage is not sufficiently resolved and the child becomes fixated within this stage what type of personality would we expect to see?
Question B. If the Anal stage is not sufficiently resolved and the child becomes fixated within this stage what type of personality would we expect to see?
