Assignment 1

Choice Theory
Social scientists who study human behavior have developed theories that attempt to explain what drives an individual's choices as well as what environmental factors influence individual human behavior and how they influence it. One theory on human behavior you may be aware of is Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Maslow (as cited in Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016, p. 505-507) stated that individuals first strive to fulfill their basic physical needs. Then, the individuals, as long as they are successful at each stage, continue through a hierarchy of needs, obtaining each until they reach the self-actualization stage of self-fulfillment. For this week's assignment, you focus on another theory of human behavior-Glasser's choice theory.

To prepare for this Assignment, consider what you learned about choice theory in this week's resources as well as what you learned about the person and environment as it relates to young and middle adulthood.

Submit a 2 - 3 page paper that answers the following questions:

o How does choice theory explain the human behavior of individuals in the young and middle adulthood phases of the life span?

o How might you, as a social worker, incorporate components of the choice theory into your work with individuals in the young and middle adulthood phase of the life span?

o Do the human needs that Glasser identifies in his choice theory reflect the experience of individuals across cultures? Why or why not?

Support your Assignment with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Assignment ( a maximum of 4 double-spaced pages in APA format): In addition to a minimum of six scholarly references, which may include electronic government documents and reputable websites, your paper should include:

o A description of the problem's prevalence in society

o A description of the specific population impacted by this social problem, if any. If the social problem your group selected does affect a specific population, include an explanation of why that might be the case.

o An explanation of the theories that support the problem and approaches scholars and policy analysts use to address the problem

SOCIAL PROBLEM: CHILD WELFARE/ABUSE

Child welfare/abuse is prevalent amongst today's society. As social workers we need to be able to support this population since they are likely to be able to advocate for themselves. A social worker has to consider the best thing to do when he or she learns a child was oppressed and sustained injuries (Spratt, 2011). The ecological model holds that the health and behavioral status are outcomes of interest, which are determined interpersonal processes, primary groups, intrapersonal factors, community and policy (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2016). Once identified, a social worker must advocate for children to physical and emotionally free him or her from abuse (Roose & De Bie, 2008).?

Child sexual violence is a prevalent social problem in today's society (Sexual Violence, 2016). As social workers we need to help educate and advocate for these victims. There are many types (Types, n.d.).?
