Problem
Investigate the relationship between stress and physical activity for my independent study. I am particularly interested in testing the hypothesis that one's perceived stress levels are influenced by their level of physical activity, which would be the independent variable. The following factors were found in the GSS database that lend credence to my topic: One of the variables is the independent variable, or IV: The frequency with which individuals move their bodies (the independent variable, EXERCISE), and the dependent variable, DV: Level of stress - the degree to which individuals report feeling stressed (STRESS dependent variable name). My research goals include determining if and to what extent people of varying ages and lifestyles benefit from regular physical exercise in reducing stress. It is my hope that at the conclusion of this semester, I will have a clearer picture of the potential connections between physical activity and mental health.
