Question: This video is from a different time - and it goes to different places. But as silly as the video might appear to be, watch it and consider some of the issues that are indirectly addressed:
Who decides how others live? Are we actually "free" to choose our own limits and, if we do choose freely, what happens when our concepts of "freedom" impair another individual's "freedom"? Are there limits on actions individuals may take when another individual - or group of individuals - seeks to restrict access to any portion of this freedom?
How do you navigate different realms of human interactions? What sort of assumptions do you have about what might or might not be proper in setting boundaries of permitted social behaviors?
So: Here are your questions - for each of these questions, frame your response so that it incorporates at least ONE specific reference to material in chapters 9-12 in the textbook. Each reference must be different for each of the responses:
First: When you were growing up, did you join any clubs or groups (these could be social, school-related, connected to a religious institution or political)? If so, do you remember why you joined them? Did you make that decision or did someone else either approve your choice or make it for you? How long were you a member? - If you did not join any clubs or groups, why not?
Second: Have you ever been refused entry to join an organization (whether it was a society based on common interests, a religious or political group, or a group connected to your employment such as a union) either as an adult or earlier in your life? If so, why was your attempt to join rejected? How did you feel? If you have never tried to join an organization of any type, why not?
Third: Do you consider the boundaries used by different groups/organizations/clubs/societies, etc., boundaries that can be maintained by the members even if those boundaries do not represent the ideas/boundaries of the larger society? Why or why not?
Put your thoughts together carefully and type them into the text entry box. Do not forget the deadline for submission.
