Question - Fact Sheet outlining how organisations respond (or should respond) to the issue (FASD) , based on the guidelines below.
The issue selected is: Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
Your fact sheet will be divided into three sections:
1. Background: What is the issue?
Provide some background information and facts relating to the chosen issue regarding young offenders or young people at risk. What is the issue or problem?
2. Evidence: What do we know?
In this section, you will draw from your own, independent research to provide an overview of 'what we know' about the issue. What evidence-based and evidence-informed practices address this issue?
What do we know about the issue?
Why is it an issue? Use the crime theories we considered in Week 4, to explain the issue and potential strategies to address it. You must refer to at least one program, intervention or way of working with young people. You may choose something that is currently done in Australia, something that is done overseas or something that you suggest could be effective.
Consider factors such as:
How do we know which programs will be effective with young people?
What would be a measure of success? (i.e. what are we trying to achieve?)
3. Solutions: What should we do?
Based on the evidence you presented in 'the evidence' section, you must now propose solutions.
What is required to be in place for your proposed program or actions to be effective? Consider issues such as:
What professional skills are required of the workers to ensure the program will be effective?
Does it require long-term funding and evaluation?
How might you overcome some of the challenges in implementing the program? (e.g. social, political, economic).
