How do variations in individual life circumstances (e.g., age, culture, gender, socioeconomic status) impact the way researchers define emotional well-being? Researchers have not yet accounted for contexts and life circumstances since much of the work is still in development Researchers have had to abandon the goal of defining emotional well-being due to social and political tensions in academia Researchers acknowledge the importance of context and life circumstance in their definition of emotional well-being but make the distinction between those factors and the more generalized experiential (i.e., everyday feelings) and reflective (sense of meaning, goal pursut, life satisfaction) constituents of emotional well-being It forces researchers to develop unique sets of definitions of emotional well-being since there exist so many fundamental differences across people of different backgrounds.
