Case Study: Steven is a resident at the accommodation service where you work and experienced prolonged abuse as a child. He is a likeable kid and although he struggles with anxiety, he is usually quite chatty and helpful around the house. However, when he feels pressured or threatened, he becomes abusive and aggressive and it is difficult to de-escalate his behaviour. He is always remorseful afterwards and apologetic, adding to his already heightened anxiety. He likes to help with cooking and aspires to work in a restaurant one day. He did work part time at Hungry Jacks and he really enjoyed it, but recently had an argument with the Manager as he felt he was being bullied and as a result, lost his job. He is feeling really down since he lost his job and refers to himself as a "loser" and says "I am too aggro, that's why people hate me". You want to assist Steven to manage his emotions, when he feels frustrated or pressure, so he does not continue to resort to aggressive or abusive behaviour. You are concerned about his depressed mood and negative view of himself. He has just had a disagreement with another resident and his voice is raised and anger is escalating. Usually when this happens, he becomes impulsive and threatens to damage property.
