It is not enough for a psychologist to go through school and trainings and exams to be a psychologist, they must always stay on top of the latest research (Fisher, 2013). What may have been true months or ever years ago may change in weeks with new and improved knowledge and research. To be able to help their clients the best way they can, they need to stay current on the information and research. This is not only for the benefit of the patient or client but also for the psychologist so he or she knows they did all in their power to help a situation. Being a psychologist is like being a surgeon, they need to stay current on any new treatments or findings, so that can be something that they try with their new patients. My concern would be about the amount of findings...what if a psychologist was so focused on new ways of doing things only to then see that nothing is working, could too much knowledge be a bad thing? Could it hinder the psychologist's ability to treat the patient?
