The original question was:
How are leaders represented in the poem? Which characters are kings, rulers, or leaders of men or gods? How do they behave? What qualities do they demonstrate? How do these qualities compare to what we look for and expect of leaders in our workplaces, our communities, or our nation?
Their response was:
1. Leaders are represented as the most important characters throughout the poem Aeneid. Aeneas, was a Trojan hero, son of prince Achises and goddess Venus, Turnus, King of the Rutuli, Dido, Queen of Carthage, Evander, King of Pallanteum are a few leaders. They behave with the mentality of strong courageous leaders who sometimes struggle with realities of love, fate, destiny and loyalty. These qualities compare to what we look for and expect of leaders in our workplaces, our communities, or our nation because we look for a strong willed, brave and loyal leader as well as in the poem in the hopes that they will lead our nation to a good destiny. Creating and striving for peace with other nations and countries and allowing for the preservation of justice.
The original question was
How are oaths, promises, or general loyalty treated in this poem? Are certain oaths treated as "more" or "less" important than others? Are the characters "honorable"? How does this compare to how loyalty, honesty, integrity, and giving one's word are treated in America today?
Their response was:
2. Loyalty and promises in this poem are treated with great respect. I did not get the sense of a power struggle in this poem. Each character in this poem held true to their word their word. faithful and loyal to family, "with that, Venus reached to embrace her son and set the brilliant armor down before him under a nearby oak" (Virgil 1061 V. 725-727). There is a big difference in our society today because there was a time when you can say, "my word is my bond." Now if you say that then you are not believed. Or they want you to have it writing. Even with family they will turn on you just a quick as a stranger.
