Case Study: The number of children and young people diagnosed with Overweight and Obesity is increasing and this has become a priority issue for commissioners in the area where Maryam works as a school nurse. As one part of a local strategic response to this issue, Maryam has been asked to carry out community assessments, epidemiological data & provide interventions that could help improve health and well-being outcomes for children who are at risk for overweight or diagnosed with obesity. Maryam is aware that children who are overweight are at risk for developing obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Whereas, programs that address the management of obesity and weight control in children can reduce the incidence of health problems, and school absence. She also understands that diagnosis can affect a child's mental health, emotional well-being, and even attendance at school and engagement in sports, extra-curricular, and social activities.
