Question
President Joe Biden's Administration, California Governor Newsome and the Mayors of every major metropolitan area in the United States are asking, and some even demanding, government assistance to help resolve the housing crisis. This at a time where homeless numbers are increasing daily and protections afforded renters during the COVID 19 pandemic are expiring all across the country and have created a housing crisis.
1. Do you recognize housing as a serious problem in your community? Do you believe people who are in a housing crisis are solely to blame for their problem, or is there another factor acting on them?
2. If government intervention, be it Federal, State, or Local, is to be used, how would you envision that assistance being implemented in your community? Could you name any groups who would be opposed to such intervention, and why? Who, besides the homeless, would be in support of such government intervention, and why?
3. If you got together a group of people, organized public demonstrations in support of more housing, attended Congressional hearings to testify about the problem, posted flyers, wrote letters, sent text messages to legislators, or other elected officials, would you be considered an Interest Group? Do you believe such activities would get positive results? If so, why, or why not?
