Hot solutions can transport higher concentrations of metal than cooler solutions. Consider a solution that contains 10 mg gold per kg of hydrothermal ore fluid. As the solution cools, the concentration of gold drops to 1 mg/kg fluid. How many kg of ore fluid are necessary to form a metric ton of gold by cooling the solution down so that the gold content drops to 1 mg/kg fluid.
