Instructions

During the semester, students will read excerpts from Sandfort and Moulton (2015) and create their own policy field map for the policy problem selected in their research proposal.

To begin, students should exhaustively identify the actors involved in their specific policy arena (national, state, and municipal levels, nonprofit organizations, etc.) and identify the ways in which the actors are interrelated. Then, students will create their own policy field map, similar to Figure 4.1 in Sandfort and Moulton (2015, p. 134). Be sure to provide a full list of institutions and acronyms at each level of government and even international actors if applicable.

Students should provide a one-two page, double-spaced narrative explanation to accompany their policy field map. Specifically, students will want to address: (1) links between actors relating to laws and regulations, funding, or services affecting your policy problem; and (2) how relationships in your map may support or hinder policy development around your problem.
