Helping a Client with a Treatment Plan

Read the following example client situation. First elaborate a good behavioral goal for the client. Then develop and describe a plan for how use one of the treatment strategies (acceleration behavior therapy, deceleration behavior therapy, or a combination of reinforcement and punishment).

Client situation: Your client is a 37-year-old man named John. John says, "I've been arrested for drunk driving three times during the past two years, and to be honest, I've probably driven drunk 50 other times. I've done some treatment, and I've even managed to cut down my drinking a little bit to where I only have 2-3 drinks a day. But, inevitably, one weekend, I'll go out with friends, and the next thing I know, I've had 7-8 drinks, and I end up driving drunk. Then I feel bad, and I end up drinking a six-pack or two a night, and I'm right back where I started." John notes that he's a big fan of video games. He really enjoys buying upgrades for his video game characters and playing games online with his friends. He also enjoys going to movies and to Universal Studios and riding the roller coasters.
