During an appointment, one of your patients shows you a letter he got in the mail from the doctor's office stating that "A routine blood test costs 25% more than last year". Frustrated, he asks, "What is a person on a fixed income supposed to do?" What would you say/do in this situation?
You can tell that Mr. Jones is calming down a little bit. However, he says he still isn't sure why his bill is higher this year and asks if you would look at this paperwork to figure out why. What would you do now?
He states that he is okay with you reviewing his bill and is not concerned about sharing the information with you. He hands you the bill along with the other paperwork in his folder. You quickly notice two things. First, his insurance plan and benefits have changed since last year. Second, it looks like the blood test that his doctor ordered this year was more comprehensive than the test ordered last year. What would you do?
