Leaders that excel mix of styles are not reliant on a single style. Circumstances will influence the leadership style. The leadership style that I have chosen to define is servant leadership. The leadership style utilizes components of Jean Watson's caring theory and has a leadership style that focuses on caring and trust. This leadership style is evident to the staff members by the leader's actions. This style focuses on the welfare of those the individual has oversight of (Joel, 2017). A servant leadership style actively encourages the group within the organization (Joel, 2017). This may be providing the resources to improve the unit's efficiency and ease the workload of those served. I am an enormous enthusiast for unit rounding. This enables leadership to understand the units demands besides just looking at an excel spreadsheet. A leader is more apt to get involved if they feel personally responsible for those they have oversight with.

According to Maglione (2022), servant leadership prioritizes a service-oriented holistic leadership model. Clinical nurse practitioners closely relate to patients and families in a clinical setting. The patient is the ailment, but the treatment plan is holistic. The nurse practitioner with extensive training and education oversees the care and can navigate the healthcare system between the patient and family.

A transformational leader will inspire those to follow a shared goal (Joel, 2017). For example, I proposed and implemented a new electronic medical record system. Self-actualization with myself occurred because it was unrealistic to manage this project as an individual. Key personnel were chosen to participate based on their experience. The project was presented to the staff and governing body to explain the new system's benefits. The team worked together to implement the new design and train the other staff members. Weekly meetings were organized to discuss progress and manage problems. The group looked to me as the leader, not just as a manager. A leader cares and works with the group to obtain the desired outcome. The goal was more manageable with the team's commitment, and the outcome was realized.
