Assignment 1: Group Blog Instructions The purpose of this exercise is to: Give you an opportunity to critically explore the issues raised in class and in your readings; Engage constructively in philosophical dialogue with other students; Work as a group to cover the philosophical issues relevant to the topic; and Produce a short piece of philosophical writing Instructions Each of you has been automatically added to a group of four students. Each group has its own private discussion board. On your discussion boards, the group is to start four online discussion threads on any of the following topics Is romantic love based on reasons, or is it essentially irrational? Must romantic love by its nature be exclusive? What - if anything - differentiates friendship from romantic love? Is it possible to maintain your individual identity if you are in love? Do we love a whole person or a series of properties? Is romantic love morally permissible? What might different ethical theories judge in this case? You must refer to texts and ideas covered in the unit in your discussions. Each member of the group should start one thread each with a post of around 250 words. This is part A of the assessment and should be completed by December 1st. Important: Upon completion of your initial post, each member is to upload a word document to the Dropbox for this exercise on CloudDeakin by 11.59 pm on December 1st. If you do not do this, the system won't register your submission and we will be unable to determine whether you have completed part A of the assessment. After your initial posts you then comment on each other's discussion threads. Your total word count for the exercise (your initial post + your comments) should amount to 1000 words (10% tolerance). You may start commenting on each other's discussion thread any time after the initial posts. The two due dates are given to ensure that everyone has enough time to respond to the three other threads. So at the very latest, you will have a week to write up responses to the other three initial threads.
