CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF FILM AND ESSAY

Participants will do a critical analysis of a film an accompanying scholarly paper. The Film I choose is (The Secret Life of Bees - Now what I need you to look for is Physical Abuse and Abandonment)

One film to view from a list of films that depict a range of themes and contexts. The films will be Post my student. The goal is to use the medium of film to engage the course materials and reflect upon the contexts of pastoral care. The paper should: (a) give a very brief abstract of film (no more than 1 paragraph), that also identifies the particular pastoral care theme being focused on for the assignment and how the theme is conveyed in the film; (b) discuss in-depth how insights from the semester's reading and your own independent research of relevant literature helped you to interpret the primary issues of pastoral concern depicted in the film; and (c) guided by the reading and your own research, articulate a specific contextualized pastoral care plan you would utilize to intervene as a pastoral counselor/caregiver in the context depicted in the film? Delimit your area of inquiry so that your topic can be treated with some amount of depth.
