Assume you work with petunias and you have identified a single gene that causes their flowers to either be all pigmented (solid), or streaked with white. Depending on the genotype of this gene, the flowers are thus either streaked or solid. You take a streaked plant and you cross it to a solid plant. This cross results in the following progeny: 233 with streaked flowers and 197 with solid flowers.

a) Come up with a genetic explanation for the appearance and genotype of the parents and offspring of this cross.

b) Show that your explanation passes a Chi square test.
