Complete this sentence and justify your conclusions.

2. Hindsight is 20/20, so they say. If you were charged with supreme direction of the German armed forces and Reich on or about 1 October, 1940 (and assuming you had the interests of the Greater German Reich at heart, whatever you conceive them to be) what military and/or diplomatic actions would you plan and carry out? Compare your decisions with those taken by Hitler in the same circumstances.

3. Answer Question 1 again, replacing the words "in Europe in 1939" with "in Asia and the Pacific in 1941" (and other changes as appropriate).

4. Answer Question 2 again, replacing the words "German" with "Imperial Japanese" and the date "1 October, 1940" with "1 January, 1942" (and other changes as appropriate).

5. If you were a military attache at the U.S. Embassy in London at the beginning of July, 1940, charged with submitting a short estimation of the situation and probable actions of the opposing forces (and their likely outcomes) in the impending Battle of Britain, what would you write?
