A fluid flow axially in the annular region between two concentric pipes with radii R1 and R2>R1, respectively. Assume the flow is steady, incompressible, axisymmetric, fully-developed, and has no swirl. Also neglect all body forces.

a) Write out the governing equations in cylindrical polar coordinate form and simplify for the above assumptions.

b) Write down all applicable boundary conditions.

c) Integrate the resulting equations to obtain a velocity profile for the fluid in the annular region, u_z(r). Do not try to determine the constants of integration

Assume that the tunnel operates adiabatically : A hypersonic gun tunnel is used to generate short-duration, high-speed flows and typically consists of two cylindrical volumes separated by a diaphragm. One end of the tunnel (the driver end) is pumped to a high pressure, while the other end (the dri..
Pressure-angle helical pinion with a right-hand helix : A 17-tooth 20 normal pressure-angle helical pinion with a right-hand helix angle of 30 rotates at 1800 rev/min when transmitting 4 hp to a 52-tooth helical gear. Analysis for both pinion and gear-hardness values : A cable drum for a crane is to rotate between 160 and 166 rpm. Design a gear drive for 25 hp in which the input pinion rotates at 925 rpm and the output rotates with the drum. The crane is expected to operate with a 50% duty cycle for 120 hours per w..
Determine the rate of heat transfer to the rods in the oven : Long cylindrical steel rods (p=7833kg/m3 and cp=0.465kJ/kg*°C) of 8-cm diameter are heat treated by drawing them at a velocity of 4m/min through an 8-m-long oven maintained at 900°C. If the rods enter the oven at 25°C and leave at 750°C,
