Reaction time is the shortest time interval elapsed after the driver of a car decides to apply the break. (For example, the time wasted immediately after the driver sees a child standing on the road). A driver who is travelling at 25 m/s approaches a traffic light at a distance of 120 m ahead of him when he/she sees the light turn red. The driver's reaction time is 0.3 s. and the best slowing down rate by the brakes for this particular car is 3 m/s2. Will the driver be able to stop in time? (Hint: total distance travelled by the car before a full stop. Draw a simple figure.)
