A m = 8 g bullet is fired with a velocity of vbi = 850 m/s in the horizontal direction. Assuming negligible air resistance, it hits and pass through a M = 10 kg block of wood, initially at rest on a frictionless horizontal surface. The wood is connected to a spring (as shown) which has a spring constant of k = 2000 N/m. The block moves d = 10cm before the bullet leaves the block, find

(a) the speed of the bullet after impact

(b) Is the collision was elastic or inelastic? If any energy lost due to the impact calculate that energy.
