As the rotating speed of a spring-supported motor is slowly increased from 200 to 500 rpm, the amplitude of the vibration due to the unbalance of the rotor is observed to decrease steadily from 8 mm to 2.5 mm. Determine

(a) the speed at which resonance would occur,

(b) the amplitude of the steady-state vibration at a speed of 100 rpm.
