You have a 500mm long solenoid, with 1000 turns, and a diameter of 8mm.
a) If a steady current I goes through the wire, approximately what is the magnetic field inside?
b) When the current is I, find the approximate magnetic flux.
c) Find the self inductance of the solenoid.
d) The solenoid is placed upright, and hooked up to a circuit that makes the current flow upwards. A voltmeter is hooked up (in series) with the solenoid and shows that the top of the solenoid is at a steady higher "voltage".
Is the current increasing, decreasing, or holding steady? Explain.
e) If you doubled the length of the solenoid to lm and also doubled the number of turns to 2000 turns then which of the above answers would double? Which would stay the same?
