Problem

Consider Na+, K+, Cl-, Ca2+ transport across cardiac muscle cell membrane. This problem can be modeled as steady-state one-dimensional transport of ion (i=1,2,3,4, where 1= Na+, 2=K+, 3=Cl-, 4=Ca2+) transport across a charged membrane of thickness L (no convection, no chemical reaction). We assume that the electric potential varies linearly across the membranes and the transmembrane potential is Vm. (i) Partition coefficient, diffusion coefficient, and permeability of ion i is Fi, Di and Pi. Ion concentration is Ci0 and CiL on the left and right side of the membrane. Get the instant assignment help. Start with dNi/dz=0, derive an expression for Ni. (ii) Temperature is 293K. P1/P4=0.8, P2/P4= 8, P3/P4= 4. Find the resting potential across this cell membrane.
