A wooden block weighing 7 N is at rest on top of a wooden desk. The coefficient of static friction between the block and the desk is 0.43. Find the minimum horizontal force required to move the block if the following occurs.

(a) The block is being pressed into the surface with a 4 N force.

(b) The block is partially supported by a vertical string under a tension of 2 N.
