A person with mass m1 = 60 kg stands at the left end of a uniform beam with mass m2 = 91 kg and a length L = 3.2 m. Another person with mass m3 = 62 kg stands on the far right end of the beam and holds a medicine ball with mass m4 = 9 kg (assume that the medicine ball is at the far right end of the beam as well). Let the origin of our coordinate system be the left end of the original position of the beam as shown in the drawing. Assume there is no friction between the beam and floor.
1) What is the location of the center of mass of the system?
2) The medicine ball is throw to the left end of the beam (and caught). What is the location of the center of mass now?
3) What is the new x-position of the person at the left end of the beam? (How far did the beam move when the ball was throw from person to person?)
4) To return the medicine ball to the other person, both people walk to the center of the beam. At what x-position do they end up?
What are speed and direction of the ball after the collision
Three astronauts, propelled by jet backpacks, push and guide a 115 kg asteroid toward the processing dock, exerting the forces, with F1 = 34 N, F2 = 57 N, F3 = 41 N, θ1 = 30°, and θ3 = 60°
The volume control on a surround-sound amplifier is adjusted so the sound intensity level at the listening position increases from 21 to 59 dB. What is the ratio of the final sound intensity to the original sound intensity?
A solid (cylindrical) flywheel of mass m and radius r is initally at rest. A force F acts tangentially on its perimeter for a time t. Show that its angular velocity at t = 2Ft/mr . Illustrate what is its angular displacement during that time?
Find out the electric field at radius
An aircraft with a mass of 996 kg accelerates from 0 to 87 m/s in 6.2 seconds, at which time the aircraft launches. What is the kinetic energy of the aircraft when the aircraft launches
Universal beam section: bending moment, maximum stress, radius of curvature, A universal beam section has a second moment of area about its neutral axis of 6487 cm4 and its overall depth is 305 mm
The cord is after that pulled from below, shortening the radius of the circle in which block revolves to 0.15. Model the block as a particle.
What are magnitude and direction of the force
A bale of hay sits on the bed of a trailer. The trailer is starting to accelerate forward, and the bale is slipping toward the back of trailer. What would a force diagram and a free-body diagram look like for the above situation.
Consider the glass prism in the figure below, for which ? = 22° and ? = 68°. What is the smallest angle ?1 for which a laser beam will undergo total internal reflection
On Mars, where air resistance is negligible, an astronaut drops a rock from a cliff and notes that the rock falls about d meters during the first t seconds of its fall. Assuming the rock does not hit the ground first, how far will it fall during t..
