a) Draw a square circuit with a battery, a source of EMF Eo, (and note E0 is not the constant Eo) on the left, a resistor of resistance R on the top, an inductor of inductance L on the right, and nothing except the wire on the bottom. Make sure to use the standard circuit symbols.

b) The current flows clockwise and increases (but slower and slower). Suppose the current is . Take the derivative in time and multiply by L to get Ldl/dt.

c) Let there be a voltage drop across the inductor of Ldl/dt from above and a voltage rise of L across the battery (as you go counterclockwise), use those to find the current in the resistor.

d) The power drained from the battery is and the power dissipated by the resistor is 12R, so the power going elsewhere is , integrate that over all time to get the total energy that went elsewhere when Lo is 12V, the resistance is 10 and L is 1.256x10-4 H.

e) Find the energy stored in a uniform magnetic field inside the solenoid from problem 3 when the current is the equilibrium current . Does this make sense? Why?
