The combustion of 1.00 mole of octane, C8H18, yields 8 moles of CO2, 9.00 moles of H2O, and 47.0 moles of N2. The exhaust gases at 811 K, 0.172 MPa from a spark ignition engine are to be expanded through a turbocharger used to compress the incoming air charge to the engine.

The incoming air is at 20.0°C and atmospheric pressure, and the turbocharger turbine exhausts to the atmosphere (Figure below).
