Question: Air conditioners, heat pumps and refrigerators run thermodynamic cycles in reverse relative to the cycles for engines. (See your text for relevant material.) A) Find the best possible (Carnot) coefficient of performance for an air conditioner run between 70 degrees F (room) and 97 degrees F (outside). If 5 million Joules (megaJoules) of heat has to be removed every hour through a cooling fan, calculate: B) The work done by the air conditioner in an hour to maintain that room temperature and C) The total heat exhausted to the exterior of the home in one hour.
