A "diving bell" is a tube or pipe that is closed at the top and open at the bottom. It is lowered into a body of water with the open end down so that air is trapped inside and provides a place that divers can go for air without returning to the suface. A diving bell is lowered into a lake so that the interface between the trapped air and the water is 8m below the surface.
a) Find the absolute pressure of the air in the bell?
b) Assume that the bell has a total volume of 8m^3 and that air inside remains at the same temperature as the air above the lake. Find the volume of the trapped air in the previous part?
