English Paper Assignment -
Purpose: to express and defend a literary analysis of one of the attached readings.
Assume your audience is familiar with the text. Do not assume that they necessarily understand or interpret it the same way that you do. In a literary analysis, the onus is on you to convince your audience that there is validity to your thesis.
Your paper should demonstrate that you are able to do the following:
- Clearly state the issue.
- Present a clear thesis.
- Support your thesis with well-paragraphed evidence and analysis.
- Demonstrate appropriate academic tone.
- Present focused, well-developed body paragraphs relevant to the thesis.
- Quote, summarize, and paraphrase sources as necessary to supplement your ideas.
- Use MLA format.
- Articulate your ideas with clarity at the sentence and paragraph levels.
- Write an essay free of errors in spelling, grammar, and mechanics.
- Minimum requirement of one in-class source.
- Include a Works Cited page (this does not count toward the minimum length requirement).
