Case Study: Sodium ions often form ionic bonds with chloride ions, producing table salt. In the space provided below, explain how water is able to efficiently dissolve table salt, in a way that it cannot dissolve a fatty acid.

Feel free to upload illustrations to aid in your answer, however an illustration alone is not sufficient for full credit. Please include an illustration for the previous question, you can upload it here.

Part 4: We are always looking for new vaccines to immunize the population! A scientist attempting to create a new COVID vaccine manages to treat SARS-CoV-2 virus particles with a compound that destroys their RNA genome, so that what we are left with is only the empty protein "shell" (capsid) of the virus particle. The scientist hypothesizes that these empty virus particles could be injected into a human to stimulate an immune response. Do you expect this new vaccine to work? Explain your reasoning.

A fully correct answer must address both how vaccines function and how viruses cause infection.

Question 1: Explain, using the concept of herd immunity, how vaccine hesitancy can lead to a once-eradicated disease - measles - returning to a population. Be sure you are specific in your explanation.
