Ms J is nursing student who has works part time as a transcriptionist for a surgical group. She was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis when she was 8 but is otherwise healthy and remains active, exercising four times per week and practising yoga weekly. She drinks occasionally, do not smoke or use recreational drugs and lives with three others in an apartment walking distance from the campus.

Ms J presents to her general practitioner with complains of pain and numbness in both hands, particularly the thumbs and pointer fingers. She states this is worse at the end of the day. She is worried because not only does it effect her work but it has been impacting on her schooling as she has assignments due and is in front of the computer for extended periods of time.
