Case:

Gigi is a 17-year-old girl that is pregnant with her first baby at 34 weeks of gestation. She is leaving with her boyfriend, and she works in a fast-food restaurant in the evening until 2 AM, but in the morning she wakes up at 6:30 AM to go to school. Her boyfriend also 17, is also working at night at the same restaurant and in a car shop in the afternoons and weekends. Gigi sees little of him. As Gigi leaves the restaurant on Tuesday, a man comes from behind her and grabs her purse from her shoulder and pulls her down to the floor. Gigi loses her balance and falls, and the man gets really close to her, a police car driving by sees this situation happening from far and speeds towards them. The man runs away, and the officer comes out of the car and helps her to her feet. Gigi is shaking, terrified she tells you later. Gigi does not notice that her hip was dislocated in the fall, but the police officer insists to call the ambulance since she is pregnant and would be wise for her to be checked.

The paramedics arrive in the next five minutes and measure Gigi's blood pressure which was 120/80 mmHg, normal pressure, so they drive her to the emergency room. In the emergency room Gigi goes in and out of conciseness, she says she can barely see the nurses, she has a sharp pain in her top right abdomen, headache, and is vomiting. The emergency doctors ask for blood work and her platelets are 75,000/dL of blood, very low, which explains the normal blood pressure. They also attached a fetus doppler to her stomach and see that the baby's heart rate has dropped from normal 142bpm to 100 bpm. They hesitated to perform a c-section with her very low platelets. Gigi's blood pressure now is measured at 180/160 mmHg, and she is hypertensive, her headache is stronger, and she is vomiting. The vomiting and the low number of platelets should lower her blood pressure, but it does not.
